Living Room Update and Polyvore

This morning I stumbled across this fantastic website polyvore.com. It allows you to create legit and stylish fashion and decor mood boards. I have been doing this for school in photoshop, but let me tell ya, this is so much easier and fun! If you are watching your pennies like I am, then lock up your wallet before going to this site. Everything that you find to add to your stylish piece of work shows the price and and where to buy.

I decided to give polyvore a swing, and make a mood board for our living room, since it is due for an update. I keyed in my price range for each item and then made my selections. I can't wait to show Kris to see what he thinks.

Nothing Like a Good Cup of Coffee and Blog to Start the Day

One of my favorite parts of the day is my morning time. This is when I grab a cup of coffee, sit down at my computer, read the news and brush up on my daily blog reading. I can't think of any better way to start the day than to read and become inspired by the fact that there are other gals (and guys) out there that are head over heals over the same thing I am; design. What is even better is reading about those who are also schooling and working in the design world. This morning I was dazzled by a new blog: "Alice Lane Design Explored". When I headed over to the "About Jessica" ( who is actually the designer and owner of Alice Lane) I fell in love! This girl has a great story (and it is creatively written might I add). Talk about inspiring, she almost has me wanting to wander over from commercial design to residential (almost). So if you do the same thing I do every morning, start your day off on a great foot and read Jessica's inspiring story and blog.

My Fantasy Office

I love these pictures. They are from Jennifer Ramos over at MadeByGirl, taken of her home and office. I have been wanting to create a home office/studio corner for quite some time now. I need a nice organized area where I can easily work on my many projects for school. I think my roommate is probably getting tired of me taking over the kitchen and counter space for my drafting and projects. If my desk area looked anything like Jen's, I wouldn't mind looking at it everyday. I also love the picture of her chair and print (top photo). She created the "love" print herself. I would love to find a similar looking used chair that I could repaint and reupholster myself. I would probably use it as my office chair.

The newbie..

With another hectic quarter at school coming to an end, I have found myself wondering how I am going to fill up all that time I spent at school and on homework. Why not join the wonderful world of blogging? So far I have found blog reading very inspiring. Design blogs help fuel my motivation and remind me what I am working towards.
I have also decided to start a new project of my own. After taking a trip to Palm Springs a couple weekends ago, I was inspired by the homemade headboard in our room at the house we rented. I would like to create one of my own. I am hoping it will look something like this:

My plan of action is to purchase a board, stain or paint it black, purchase another smaller board, cover it with foam and canvas, secure with upholstery pins, and join the two pieces together. (talk about run on sentences) Let me know what your thoughts are folks.
